prot-dupo-310x300Art packaging DuPont™ Tyvek®

A relatively new use for DuPont™ Tyvek® has been unveiled in the art world. Due to its barrier properties, Tyvek® offers the protection which makes it the best solution for transporting and storing paintings and sculptures. More and more museums, galleries and art packagers are entrusting Tyvek® to protect their valuable pieces for these very reasons.

Tyvek® styles 1443R and 1622E, which are qualified for the packaging and transport of paintings and sculptures, are pH neutral, lint-free, make sure condensation can escape and protect from external damage.

Tyvek® is also smooth, which prevents it from scratching surfaces and makes it agreeable to work with.

Archival quality Tyvek® 1622E is soft, flexible, tear-resistant and breathable.

Since Tyvek® can be easily sewn, glued or taped, it can be tailor-made into the forms needed, or taken from the roll to create clean work areas or displays.

DuPont™ Tyvek® styles 1443R and 1622E are available in rolls up to 3 m width and 50 or 100 m length.

DuPont™ Tyvek® Protective food Packaging

Not only can DuPont™ Tyvek® protect food quality and extend shelf life through its usage in active and intelligent packaging, it can also be used during every stage of the food chain from raising crops out in the field to keeping produce fresh on the grocery shelves.

dupoDuPont™ and its partners have developed innovative ways to protect perishables and to reduce the spoilage of food through various solutions for wrapping, bagging, covering, encapsulating, interleaving and protecting. Breathable, water-resistant Tyvek® is useful in food production too and has been put to imaginative uses, including as a means to apply coatings to different food products, like spice coatings on sausages and ham. The breathability and the protective qualities of Tyvek® make it a perfect partner in agriculture as well. It has been used as tree base wraps, ground protection, and for freeze control, to name a few ways Tyvek® helps bring quality food to the table. Because it comes in a highly reflective white style, lightweight, reusable Tyvek® has even been laid on the ground to reflect sunlight to the bottom of oranges, to help ripen the underside of the fruit. It has also been used to protect dates on the tree and to cover mulberry bushes planted to feed silk worms, both of which are exposed to damaging rains.

Using Tyvek® to protect perishables during air transportation and transit (a typical example is aspargus shipped from Peru to the world) can extend shelf life and decrease your loss rates dramatically and thereby increase profi tability. It is estimated that 20 to 30% of food profit losses derive from spoilage between the time the food is prepared or harvested and the time it is made available for the consumer. This is a very significant bite into profits which can be greatly reduced by using Tyvek® to help stabilize external variables like temperature, light and moisture. Tyvek® reflects up to 95% of the UV rays and prevents condensation that could lead to mold and rot. It is also a bacterial barrier that avoids contamination from bacteria like salmonella inside a closed system. The diverse and extremely practical uses that the food industry has already found for Tyvek® should serve to whet the appetite for even more innovative applications in this large and growing sector.

Protective packaging DuPont™ Tyvek®

DuPontTM Tyvek® makes it possible to store, handle and transport all kind of sensitive parts (e.g. automotive) through the supply chain safely using returnable packaging systems. Tyvek® is extremely fl exible and protective and can be tailor-made to optimize space in the transportation containers, which prevents damage of parts being moved during storage and transport. on top of this, it makes your supply chain leaner and greener.

With no added softeners which might damage the parts, Tyvek® is lightweight and smooth, making it ergonomically effi cient. Workers can easily access parts without straining to either put them in or retrieve them. The smooth surface quality makes it agreeable to the touch and safe for parts that might be scratched by rougher materials.

Special Tyvek® styles can also be used when cushioning or padding is desired, providing even greater protection for more fragile and delicate parts. Again, Tyvek® is flexible and lightweight and can be easily shaped for optimal protection. The covers and storage bags can be cleaned and repeatedly reused, and the material is lint-free and tear-resistant. Additionally, because Tyvek® is so lightweight and thin, it takes up very little storage space and saves added expenses.
